CAMP CASEY, South Korea – 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division (RUCD) officially welcomed approximately 300 Soldiers with 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery Regiment, 75th Fires Brigade as they conducted a Transfer of Authority (TOA) ceremony yesterday at Carey Fitness Center, Camp Casey at 11am.

Based at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the Multiple Launch Rocket System, or MLRS, unit is replacing 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, as the U.S. Army’s only rotational MLRS battalion on the Korean Peninsula and will now serve as part of the Combined Division’s 210th Field Artillery Brigade for the next nine months.

The Transfer of Authority ceremony began with the uncasing of the colors for the 3-13 Field Artillery Battalion.

The 3-13 Field Artillery Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Will B. Freds, and the 3-13 Field Artillery Battalion Senior Enlisted Leader, Command Sgt. Maj. James Atchison uncased the colors of the ‘Red Dragons’ battalion, signifying the assumption of responsibility for the current mission to provide timely, accurate and safe fires in support of the Combined Division and to aid in the deterrence of North Korean aggression.  

The ceremony continued with the 2-20 Field Artillery Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Jonathan M. Velishka and the 2-20 Field Artillery Battalion Senior Enlisted Leader, Command Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Ball, casing the colors for the “Deep Strike” Battalion, signifying the completion of their mission on the peninsula and the transfer of authority for the ongoing mission to the ‘Red Dragons.’

The 2-20 Field Artillery Battalion will return to Fort Hood, Texas, where their colors will be uncased once more.

The ‘Deep Strike’ battalion, based out of Fort Hood, Texas, was the first MLRS rotational battalion to arrive on the peninsula as part of the Army’s reconstruction of field artillery brigades.

“The Transfer of Authority means that we are ready to fight and that we have the mission under control,” said Lt. Col. Freds, commander of the ‘Red Dragons’ battalion. “The 3-13 Field Artillery (Battalion) supported the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War beginning in June of 1950. Now, 66 years later, we’re back.”

한미 연합사단이 새로운 순환배치 MRLS 대대를 맞이하다

캠프 케이시, 대한민국 - 미(美)육군 제2보병사단/한미연합사단은 어제(2월 10일) 오전 11시  카레이 피트니스 센터에서 열린 권한이양식을 통해 75화력여단 13포병연대 3대대(3-13포병대대) 장병 약 300명을 공식적으로 환영했다.

미 본토의 오클라호마 주(州) 포트 실(Fort Sill)에 주둔하고 있던 MLRS(the Multiple Launch Rocket System) 부대인  3-13포병대대는 한반도에 있던 미육군의 유일한 순환배치 MLRS대대였던 20포병연대 2포병대대(2-20포병대대)와 교대하였으며, 앞으로 9개월 동안 한미 연합사단 210포병여단 소속으로 임무를 수행할 예정이다.

권한이양식은 3-13포병대대의 부대기를 펼치는 것으로 시작되었다.

3-13포병대대장 윌 프레즈 중령과 대대 주임원사인 제임스 애치슨 원사는 적시에 정확하고 안전한 화력을 연합사단에 지원하고, 북한의 침략을 억제하는데 도움을 주는 현행 임무에 대한 책임을 인수하였음을 나타내는 의미로, '레드 드래곤(붉은 용)' 대대(3-13포병대대)의 깃발을 펼쳤다.

이어서 2-20포병대대장 조나단 벨리시카 중령과 대대 주임원사 케네스 볼 원사가 한반도에서 그들의 임무를 마치고 앞으로 임무를 수행할 ‘레드 드래곤’에게 권한을 이양했음을 나타내는 의미로, “딥 스트라이크” 대대(2-20 포병대대)의 깃발을 접는 것으로 행사는 계속되었다.

2-20포병대대는 텍사스 주(州) 포트 후드(Fort Hood)로 돌아가 그곳에서 다시 한 번 그들의 부대기를 펼칠 것이다.

텍사스 주 포트 후드에 주둔했던 “딥 스트라이크” 대대는 미 육군 포병여단 개편의 일환으로 한반도에 도착한 최초의 순환배치 MLRS 대대였다.
