US Army Garrison - Humphreys, South Korea – Maj. Gen. Steven W. Gilland, outgoing commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea – United States (ROK-U.S.) Combined Division, relinquished his command of the U.S. Army’s only forward deployed Combined Division to incoming 2ID commanding general Maj. Gen. David A. Lesperance today.

 

대한민국 캠프 험프리스 – 제2보병사단/한미연합사단 사단장인 스티븐 W. 길란드 소장은 오늘 미군내 유일하게 파병되고 연합사단으로 구성된 사단 지휘권을 신임 데이빗 A. 레스퍼런스 소장에게 이양했다.

 

The change of command ceremony held at 2ID’s Robertson Field marked the end of Gilland’s tenure where he balanced the task of maintaining unit readiness with diplomacy and community relations.  His focus on ensuring the division was trained to respond to emergencies became apparent during the coronavirus outbreak.  2ID was responsible for the quarantine process for all U.S. Forces-Korea personnel coming in to the ROK, resourcing and processing thousands of military personnel and their families and ensuring safety and compliance with military and Korean requirements to decrease the spread of the virus.

 

외교적 및 지역사회 관계를 바탕으로 부대 준비태세 유지의 임무를 균형 있게 완수한 길란드 소장의 임기 마지막을 기록하는 이취임식은 미2사단 로버트슨 필드에서 진행되었다.  사단을 확고히 하는 것에 대한 그의 촛점은 코로나 바이러스 확산의 시기에서 응급상황이 실제상황으로 나타나는 것에 대응하는 훈련에 맞춰져 있었다.  미2사단은 한국에 들어오는 수천 명에 달하는 군인원과 그 가족들을 포함한 모든 주한미군 관계자들에 인적지원과 입출입절차 그리고 안전과 바이러스 확산을 줄이기 위한 미군과 한국의 필수사항을 준수하는 것을 확고히 하는 방역을 전담하였다.

 

“Our warriors are who make this outfit a great unit; I’ve learned much from you in the last 22 months,” said Gilland. “The people we have met, the stories we have heard of courage, adventure, adversity and heroism of the Korean people are awe-inspiring.”

 

길란드 소장은 “우리의 전사들은 본 제복이 훌륭한 부대가 되도록 하는 이들입니다. 저는 여러분들을 통해 지난 22개월 동안 많은 것을 배웠습니다,” 며 “우리가 만난 사람들, 한국민의 용기와 모험 그리고 역경과 영웅심에 관해 우리가 들어왔던 이야기들은 모두 깊은 경외로움이었습니다.”고 말했다.

 

Lesperance is coming from the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, and has commanded at multiple levels throughout his career, although this is his first in Korea.

 

레스퍼런스 소장은 캘리포니아주 포트 어윈에 위치한 국립훈련센터에서 근무하였고 비록 그가 한국에 처음 부임을 하는 것이지만 그의 군경력에서 다양한 지휘관의 임무를 수행하였다.

 

“It really is an honor to stand here today – successor to a great lineage of 2nd Infantry warrior division commanders who set an incredible example of combat readiness, combined partnership, plus enabling and sustaining the [ROK-U.S.] alliance,” said Lesperance.

 

래스퍼런스 소장은 “저는 오늘 전투준비태세와 연합 동반자의식 그리고 한미공조를 실현하고 지속하는 믿기 힘들 정도인 본보기를 세운 제2보병전사사단 사단장의 훌륭한 혈통을 이어받는 사람으로 이곳에 서있다는 것이 진정 영광입니다.”고 말했다.

 

Gilland will be the deputy commanding general for 3rd Corps at Fort Hood.
길란드 소장은 포트 후드에 위치한 제3군사령부 부사령관으로 부임하게 된다.
